Mrs. Thompson won the PAEMST (Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching) National Award presented by President Biden. The PAEMST is the most prestigious honor one can earn while teaching either science or mathematics. Grade-Level: All Grades Activity Title: Eco-Schools USA Certification Subject: A year of events and activities Teacher(s): Thompson, Yorkshire Date: School Year 2017-2018 Number of Students: 35 Description: Students created a school-wide Eco-Action Plan and performed, monitored and evaluated their progress towards multiple goals. Students were exposed to "green careers" and facilitated multiple programs that they would carry into their higher education goals. Students did multiple STEAM projects and project-based learning activities. The journey spanned a year with monitoring water use at the school, celebrating recycling day, creating multiple works of art for Earth Day, celebrating National Wildlife Week, working in the garden and traveling the trails of NorthBay Adventure. The skills and activities learned on this journey create an engagement in environmental education that was unmatched. Included is a sample Monthly Pathway Calendar for 2018-2019 and images of our students performing different activities.

The team was able to hear from other teams in the area and discuss projects together. The Team enjoyed music, food and laughter as a full celebration of their accomplishments. The team received special recognition from Baltimore City for their implementation of the Green Healthy Smart Challenge and Baltimore Energy Challenge Grants.
