Grade-Level: All Activity Title: Technology Madness Subject: Incorporating technology into he Teacher(s): All When: December 17, 2019 Number of Students: 65 Description: Students participated in bracket style technology competition where they used no light to code robots to do obstacles courses with the students as they physically complete the courses themselves. Students discussed how energy is different in the body versus the universe. They compared and contrasted these types of energy.
STEAM NIGHT 1: November 14th, 2019
Grade-Level: All Activity Title: STEAM NIGHT Subject: Planning, Organizing and Implementing Projects for the School Teacher(s): Thompson, McPartland, Briggs, Conner, Hamele, Ziffer, Castro, Rose When: November 14, 2019 4:30-7:30 Number of Students: 150 and 45 parents Description: Members of all areas of the school community came together to support STEAM night. This was a family based event that allowed students to bring their parents after school and experience all types of STEAM Related activities. Some of these included, but were not limited to: Gardening, Spheros, Drones, Coding, Stacking Cups, Air Quality, Cooking, STEM-Challenges, Chemistry, Makey Makey and more. This event was enjoyed by all.

Grade-Level: All Activity Title: STEAM Fair Subject: STEM Teachers: All When: April 4, 2019 Number of Students: Whole School, (27 Parents) Description: The students and staff hosted a STEAM night with 12 hands on activities for all students to participate in. The students were able to make slime, build towers, learned about fingerprints, spun using physics and make a marshmallow shooter! The students learned about everything environmentally related with emphasis on Engineering. The night continued with making butter and different varieties of pattern evaluation. Parents were encouraged to look at summer STEAM programs and sign up using an interest sheet for individual consultation. What a fun night for all!

Green Week Celebration
Grade-Level: All Activity Title: Green Week Events Subject: STEM Teacher(s): All When: April 9-13; 2016, 2017, 2018 and planned for 2019 Number of Students: 565 Description: The 7th and 8th grade students developed environmental lesson plans to be taught to Pre-K through 6 grade. The students arrived at the auditorium in shifts and the older students rotated through the younger students with lessons. The students learned about everything environmentally related with emphasis on Maryland issues. Some of the topics included the following: Beekeeping, Photosynthesis, Rat Population, Invasive Species, Native Species, Light Pollution, All types of chemical pollution, Energy Power, Growing Resources, Recycling etc. Below is a video that City Schools' Communications Office made about the event, as well as photos and the agenda.
Grade-Level : All Activity Title: STEAM FAIR Subject: STEAM Teacher(s): All When: April 9-13, 2018 Number of Students: 232 Description: Arlington held the first ever STEAM fair in April 2018 in the auditorium. Over 200 students from grades Pre-K through 8th grade participated in the event. Projects from all disciplines and art work representing many aspects of environmental concern were presented, scored and displayed. This event was open to all school staff for their students to visit as well as the community and parents.
